Audio Background Context
The John H. Scholarship of $4,375 was allocated to the Australia Intergroup Service Representative (ISR) from Meeting #7764/Glebe group for London WSC 22/23. Australian members fundraised for attendance to the next year's New York WSC 23/24, and reapplied for John H. Scholarship (although the application was “sent to the back of the queue” said D.A. Treasurer). The funds raised for an 23/24 Australian representative ultimately were donated by group conscience decision to a Group Service Representative (GSR) representing SoCal ‘Courage to Succeed’ Meeting, a fellow from Japan who offered service in underserved regions. A written agreement as per BDA Tool #8 was drafted and fundraised funds paid the WSC conference registration directly to D.A. This Asia Pacific (APAC) agreement between D.A. members and meetings ensured the funds stayed in our time zone region [Japan GMT +9 | Australia GMT +7 to +11], and Australians were assured the funds went directly to D.A. and not a random unknown person.
Members in Japan and Australia have greatly advanced the presence of D.A. recovery in the region as a result of the D.A. WSC22/23 John H Scholarship 'Most need' allocation – Thank you D.A. members. Both the ISR and GSR contributed on the Global Committee 24/25 under subcommittee #3 and met monthly at a time that was outside of North American business hours. We thank all those who served/participated in the International Committee’s New Years Marathons for being the catalyst to reach our regions, regions who would otherwise have remained lacking exposure and awareness of the organisation of D.A. and the democratic processes of the WSC. Specific thanks to Joan N. for sharing her ESH.
The members of BDA Sydney unexpectedly had this global reach vision unfold from following the D.A. Treasurers Manual line by line, word by word, letter by letter, and opening a separate 'GSR Fund' bank account exactly as described (pg 9). We suggest all members, not only Treasurers, refer to this conference approved literature, as led. Much gratitude to all in service and participation within Debtors Anonymous.
Global Intergroups and Regional Area Groups.
At the time of the 2024 registered meeting audit, there are 23 registered intergroups; 14 in North America, 4 in Europe, 2 in South America, 1 in Asia Pacific, 1 in Eurasia, and 1 intergroup supporting D.A. groups across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In addition, D.A. has 3 registered Regional Area Groups (RAGs) supporting GSRs in Southern California, Northern California, and Greater New York. RAG's are like an intergroup for General Service Representatives (GSR).
