Daily Action Spreadsheet Resource

In the closing section of our weekly meeting, BDA Sydney go around the virtual room to declare a personal 'action step' for the coming week to aid our Recovery. A group member has created his own resource to assist keep an inventory of actions, and has shared it here with the group.

Visit and copy the google spreadsheet Daily Action Plan Template Resource for your use, or alter it to suit you.

Treasurer Spreadsheet Resource

Every D.A. and B.D.A. Group or Meeting has a Service Position of Treasurer as outlined in the DA Manual Of Service. There can be a Co-Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer to share this specific workload as it is key in the health of the meeting's operations.

B.D.A. Sydney currently has three Treasurers in these service positions, whom have created a google sheet template from the instructions within the D.A. Treasurer's Manual  as a FREE DOWNLOAD for use by other group Treasurers.

BDA Tool #2  'Business Plans'

"We write annual one-year business plans with definable and accountable goals and targets."

B.D.A. Sydney currently has two Co-Treasurers  in this Service Office, with 3 additional signatories as financial oversight. The Treasurers meet once a month to learn and apply the D.A. Treasurer's Manual , the BDA Tools, and other c-a literature. As the result of the  February Treasurer's meeting, and an outcome of February's group study of BDA Tool 2, a meeting annual plan is being put forward to our meeting's Group Conscience as a suggestion. It contains "definable and accountable goals and targets", a meeting annual calendar was created  as part of that Business Plan.

Spiritually Sustainable Earning Globally

Spiritually Sustainable Earning is earning that meets our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs in alignment with our Higher Power’s will for us.  This is a 'movement' within the fellowship that supports both D.A. and B.D.A. fellows alike and is represented at WSC by a Caucus.

When we first come to D.A. we may feel that if we only earned more money, all our problems would be solved. In D.A. we learn that it’s not really about the money, it’s about the quality of our life and our relationship with our Higher Power. We come to realize that our work life is out of balance. As we work the Steps and apply the Tools, our earning efforts come into alignment with our Higher Power’s will. We discover that we can be of service regardless of what kind of work we are doing. It can be the vision job or the ‘B’ job.

Spiritually sustainable earning gives us the opportunity to become the person our Higher Power wants us to be. It is about the journey, not the destination, about applying the 12 Steps and 12 Tools in everything we do. As a result, we find ourselves living a prosperous life, wealthy in relationships and rich in experiences.

As we say in the DA Promises, “All this and more is possible. When we work this program with integrity and to the best of our ability, one day at a time, a life of prosperity and serenity will be ours.”

Question: Did you know, your group can now add the DA 'Inclusivity Statement' to your meeting format?' It takes just 50 secs to read. You can find it on pg 18 of the current DAMS

Inclusivity Statement

“Whatever your story, you are welcome in Debtors Anonymous. In D.A., we celebrate the rich, diverse experiences of people of all identities. We embrace members of any race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental ability, socio-economic status, religious, spiritual, or philosophical expression, or any other trait. Our various experiences benefit our recovery, so we encourage all members to value differences and actively participate in making D.A. an inclusive fellowship. Together, we create accessible and welcoming spaces for anyone with the desire to stop incurring debt, so that we may all recover one day at a time.”

The above Inclusivity Statement was approved by the General Service Board in July, 2022 and has been added to the 2022 Debtors Anonymous Manual of Service.

PANEL DISCUSSION 'Just how insane
are we?'

In this 12 Step Fellowship, we do say.. “The suggested Twelve Steps of Debtors Anonymous and Business Debtors Anonymous provide a foundation for living that forms the basis of our spiritual program. They are the principles that make possible our recovery from the insanity of compulsive debting.”

Some D.A. members have been considering and investigating having the symptoms of compulsive debting becoming psychiatrically recognised. This facilitator led panel event, is a light hearted look at insanity in all it’s colours.

Bring your mad ravings, your ludicrous delusions, so you can kick back and listen in on some positively nutty chit chat, and possibly distorted reflections on life and times in D.A. You might think we're crazy? Why not duck over to our wiki-page and brush up on D.A.'s psychiatric categorization.

All donations will go towards D.A. registered Group #7759 GSR Fund for WSC.

Please note. This is special event is not done in the D.A. 'Meeting Format'. Please discuss with your Sponsor if you have any concerns in attending. All DA/BDA fellows welcome. Ask questions to bdasydney@gmail.com

Cultural Awareness of DA

D.A./B.D.A is an offshoot from the Alcoholics Anonymous Fellowship (A.A.) est.1935. A.A. is widely known and somewhat generally understood in western society as a norm. A.A. has a large Fellowship presence globally, and has had many cultural references to it. Debtors Anonymous is a considerably younger Fellowship (est. 1976) and is yet to become known or normalised in the same way. That said, references have begun in popular culture, for example, these articles 'A Way Back From Deep Debt' [New York Times], 'Hey, Give Them Credit' [The Washington Post], Getting Unhooked [Huffpost] or in this scene from the iconic 1999 film 'Fight Club' (Viewer discretion is advised). Two D.A. members have shared on a BBC Radio 4 show 'You and Yours'. The two DA members speak at around 3:50 and 39:30. > LISTEN to the Radio Show < You can read up about the Debtors Anonymous Fellowship scope and history on a wikipedia webpage/DA.
